Kaipa released a new album in the summer, and I’ve finally got around to giving it a few listens. They’re not reinventing themselves at all, but it’s nice to see another 70s progressive rock act putting out good new material after a successful comeback (they’ve released 5 other albums since 2000). Roine Stolt hasn’t been present in this new incarnation since about 2006, and honestly I think the band’s better off for it. Their new guitarist, Per Nilsson, is a more than worthy replacement, having had a long tenure with the metal band Scar Symmetry.
I tried to buy a new cassette adapter for my car’s tape deck today, but Zellers sold me a dud. So frustrating.
I’m mostly pissed because I was all ready to go on a long car ride and crank up this record by Kaipa. They were a Swedish progressive rock band probably most famous for starting the prog rock career of Roine Stolt, the guitarist behind the 90s prog group The Flower Kings. This is a song off of their self-titled 1975 debut, Stolt’s first taste of professional recording success.
The band managed to produce 5 albums before breaking up in the early 80s, and like so many bands seem to be doing, they got back together in the 2000s to release a new album.
