Graveyard - As The Years Pass By, The Hours Bend

Here’s another Graveyard song, a nice long track off of their self-titled debut. Judging by the album cover, signing with Nuclear Blast gave them the opportunity to up their game image-wise on their second release. This cover looks like it was drawn with pencil crayons, which is pretty funny and I guess could reflect the album’s laid back atmosphere. Or maybe the Swedes were just focusing on producing this wonderful music!

Graveyard’s Blue Soul.

Apparently their live shows are awesome as well! YAY

Graveyard - Rss

Found this band yesterday and it’s unbelievably kick-ass. Graveyard is a 70s-style psychedelic outfit from Sweden that spun out of Norrsken, a doom metal band that broke up in 2000. Huge direction change aside, I think the weirdest thing about this band is that they got a record deal with Nuclear Blast, the label better known for its “extreme” metal acts like Dimmu Borgir, Anthrax, and Cradle of Filth. I personally came to psychedelic and progressive music through those metal acts, so maybe Nuclear Blast is on to something. I think Graveyard is an amazing addition to their roster. They’re already two albums deep into their career, so hopefully we’ll see a long life out of the band.

The music is wonderfully composed, a mix of the driving guitar work and fuzzed out mellowness behind a number of contemporary psychedelic bands (like Kamchatka stirred together with Black Mountain and Clutch). It’s noisy, bluesy, sounds like its on the cusp of losing control, and the band’s not afraid to fool around a bit. And just look at the record’s cover! I think I’m in love.
