GG at the GG is one of Gentle Giant’s live albums (also released on DVD), recorded in 1978 but not released until 2006. This rendition of Free Hand makes me seethe with jealously over their freakish amount of musical talent. Keep in mind there is only one keyboard player!
Based on my evening, Gentle Giant is a great band to throw on while you fry up pot-stickers. I like that the band includes little notes about each song in the LP liner. The one for A Cry For Everyone reads:
The lyric gives away something of the lyric thoughts of one or two members of the band, and is inspired by the literature and philosophy of Albert Camus.
Silly prog bands…
Bought a bunch of my favourite albums downtown at a record store called Turntable. When the guys who run the shop saw that I’d grabbed a bunch of 70s prog rock, they wouldn’t stop tossing at me other records they told me I’d love. I told them that I came across this music through downloading, and I think they were (too?) excited that that still drove me to buy music. I was super impressed by the amount of mint, original pressings (like this Caravan one) that they have. Maybe I’ll be able to pester them into letting me work there one day.
