The Bakerton Group - Bien Clasico

The Bakerton Group is Clutch’s instrumental side project. Their 2009 release, El Rojo, sports this beautiful cover of a hoplite soldier constellation. I’m a classics major, so the heroism of hoplites is indoctrinated into my soul, and this album’s art plays really well into my upcoming Persian War post.

Clutch - Never Be Moved

Hey hey hey hey, get your evolution on!

Clutch - Box Car Shorty's Confession (Acoustic)

Clutch has released a new deluxe edition of Blast Tyrant, the album that scored them their first real taste of “fame.” It’s second disc, named Basket of Eggs, is filled with a mix of unreleased blues recordings and alternate (sometimes acoustic) takes of a few of Blast Tyrant’s most memorable songs. They’ve mixed together their new bluesy sound with the songs I love the most, so it’s going to be hard to pry myself away from this album to listen to anything else over the next few months.

King Hobo - From Me To You

If a list of King Hobo’s line-up doesn’t make you want to listen to this song, god help you.

Jean-Paul Gaster of Clutch (drums)
Per Wiberg of Opeth (keyboards, vox)
Thomas Andersson of Kamchatka (guitars, lead vox)
Ulf Rockis Ivarsson of Beat Under Control (bass)

Gaster and Wiberg, while performing at Sounds of the Underground 2005, decided they wanted to get their funk on and held open jam sessions near the tour buses. King Hobo rolled out of that and in 2008 these guys got together for a week and jammed out this fantastic record with a basically blank slate. I really hope this band becomes these guys’ main project, and I love them in their respective bands.

The Bakerton Group - Great Bakertons

I don’t know how I went so long without hearing about The Bakerton Group while being such a big Clutch fan.

Clutch - 10001110101

For Xmas I had my guitar’s bridge pick-up switched out for a dirtier one, and now my guitar sounds a lot like Tim Sult’s. Life goal accomplished!

Ain’t nothing you can do about it. Gonna be a big brawl over it
Like them little bitty babies in the king cakes.
