Budgie - Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman

I needed to throw this album on today, and it turns out I’ve never posted from Budgie’s debut. Shame on me.

Budgie was a great Welsh hard rock outfit that’s lasted since the late sixties. They helped pave the way for the heavy metal of the eighties with their mix of heavily distorted, bluesy riffs and Burke Shelley’s high pitched vocals

This song’s called Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman, and it’s a 9-minute long blues rock freak-out.

Budgie - Whiskey River

Yeah, I had to double dip; I mean, just look at this cover! Squawk was Budgie’s second record, coming a year before Never Turn Your Back On A Friend, and I think it’s only less popular because Metallica didn’t cover any of this album’s songs. This song doesn’t have anything that’s prohibitively long. Swearsies.

Sup, budgie?

Budgie - You're the Biggest Thing Since Powdered Milk

Pretty much any of Budgie’s albums work for this week’s theme, and I’m kind of tempted to post a song from each of them because the covers are all fantastic. This one might remind you of Yes album covers, and it should since it was done by Roger Dean.

Budgie was a great Welsh hard rock outfit that lasted from the late sixties through to 1988 (and a bit of touring supporting a new record in the mid-2000s). They’re probably best known for Metallica’s cover of their songs Breadfan and Crash Course In Brain Surgery than anything they actually got on the airwaves. (Sometimes music history is sad.)

Disclaimer: the opening drum solo to this song, You’re the Biggest Thing Since Powdered Milk, is a little ridiculous, but troop through it if you can, because this is the best song on the record.
