Bobby Charles - Small Town Talk
Listening to Italian music doesn’t seem to be helping me all that much in my Italian course, so screw it, I’m going to listen to Bobby Charles instead.
People like to call his music swamp pop, and while I’m not usually a fan of overly specific genre names, this one is pretty sweet. His self-titled release is a healthy blend of down-tempo, jazzy blues and country, kind of like a less coked-out Dr. John. He wasn’t all that active, but in 1972 he released this record on which Rick Danko (of The Band) shared a few writing credits. He seems to have hung out with The Band quite a bit, appearing at their farewell concert, The Last Waltz, but not making it into Scorsese’s film.
