Michael Head & The Strands - The Prize

I don’t know what Michael Head did to avoid commercial success, but to confirm this band’s relative oblivion, I just found out that with only slightly more than 50 listens to this act’s lone 1997 record, I’m one of the “top listeners” on Last.fm. Just crazy. Literally everyone I’ve shown Michael Head & The Strands to (which is practically everyone I know because this is such a pretty album) has asked how the hell this didn’t fly off of the shelves, and how they missed out on it. The music itself is a relaxed brand of British pop rock, very well put together.

It’s sort of sad that there are fantastic 90s records that wallow in the same obscurity as some of the 60s and 70s bands I’ve dug up. Sort of exciting too.
