Savoy Brown is a British blues treasure. In 1971, their guitarist and drummer, Dave Paverett and Roger Earl, split away to form a little band called Foghat, but that was after helming 6 records with this band. The recording session for Blue Matter, their 1969 release, was scheduled a little too close to a tour they’d schedeuled, so to meet their contract obligation they arranged to record a live show, and then they used some of those songs to fill out the album. For that reason Paverett actually takes over on vocals, because their usual singer had tonsillitis.
