I keep coming across people that want to break music neatly into decades as though some sort of cosmic Boggle timer goes off and all of music’s creative and aesthetic energies are jostled into an entirely distinct jumble. Church of Misery is a Japanese psychedelic metal band that proudly demonstrates that same brand of psychedelic hard rock is alive and well with unbroken continuity which came to be in the 70s through bands like Truth and Janey, I Drive, Necromandus, Leaf Hound, etc. Hell, I think all of Church of Misery’s albums have alternative Black Sabbath tribute covers, and Japanese bands paying homage to Black Sabbath is practically as old as rock music itself (The Flower Travelling Band).
