Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera was an exceptional psychedelic rock band from the UK during the late 60s. Under a different name they’d toured as the opening act for Pink Floyd and took that psychedelic experience with them as they began to make their own music. They keep their songs tight and pop-tinged, like other late-60s acts Clear Light or Stained Glass. This song, Flames, was a very minor hit, but Led Zeppelin covered it during their live shows in the earlier parts of their career, and Robert Plant would later use it during his early 2000s tours.
