John Fahey - America
It took me a long time to decide which song to post from this John Fahey record because they’re all so intricate and peaceful to listen to. I settled on the title track, America. Fahey was a prime mover in a folk movement called American Primitive, an effort to bring solo steel-stringed guitar into the ‘concert music’ genre, dominated generally by piano and violins, by incorporating aspects of classical music and Indian folk into guitar’s traditional American blues and folk paradigms. And, you know, by being dope at guitar.
